Sunset Photography Workshop

Outer Banks Photo Workshops and Salty Paws Biscuits present a Sunset Photography Workshop on Jockey’s Ridge, led by Dan Waters or Dan Beauvais. Climb to the highest point on the Outer Banks and the largest sand dune on the east coast, Jockey’s Ridge. Overlook both the Atlantic Ocean and Roanoke Sound. Explore the photo opportunities of the sculpted patterns in the ever-shifting sand. Capture the spirit of flight as you photograph hang gliders and kite fliers. Finish the evening with the potential for a gorgeous sunset over the sound, and several minutes of colorful afterglow.

The leaders will offer photographic instruction, advice, and inspiration to photographers of all levels. They each have over 30 years photography experience, and a combined 30 years of living and photographing on the Outer Banks. They know photography, and know the Outer Banks!

The workshop is held each Thursday evening during June, July, August and September. It starts at 5:45pm, and continues until after sunset. Meet on the deck in front of Salty Paws Biscuits, directly across from Jockey’s Ridge, at MP 12.5 on Rt 158 (the Bypass), between Kitty Hawk Kites and Kitty Hawk Sports, Jockey’s Ridge Crossing Shopping Center in Nags Head. 35° 57.501′N 75° 37.510′W  Map

The workshop is open to participants 12 years and older. Bring your camera, camera manual, and a tripod if available. A camera with adjustable exposure will permit the greatest flexibility, but a point-and-shoot will work. Lenses ranging from wide angle to long telephoto will be useful. Sunscreen, a bottle of water, a hat, and personal insect repellent is recommended. Beware that Jockey’s Ridge is a wearying climb in soft sand, so be prepared.

Fine pictures can be made even in light rain. The most dramatic light can be found at the edge of the weather. Bring a plastic bag to protect your camera. In the event of extreme weather, the instructor will call participants no later than 45 minutes before the scheduled start time, and the workshop will be rescheduled to the same time the next day. Refunds will only be given if the workshop is also canceled the second day. Provide the number where you can be reached the day of the workshop when you register, and be sure the phone is powered-on so you can receive a cancellation call if necessary. The decision of whether or not to cancel is solely at the discretion of the workshop leader.

Workshop fee is $48, due at the time of your reservation.  Call 252-491-8437 to reserve, or use the “Buy Now” button below.

If you must cancel and wish a refund, minus a $15 administration fee, do so no later than 24 hours before the workshop start.  Otherwise, no refunds will be given.

Capture great photographs, and wonderful memories!
